LOCAL HISTORY VISIT TO GLANDFORD/LETHERINGSETT

The Local History Group had their first outing of the year in March visiting the villages of “Letheringsett and Glandford” north west of Holt. Group research had previously been done on both villages and also on some of their inhabitants.

The villages form a civil parish with Bayfield for ecclesiastical purposes with both Letheringsett St Andrew's and Glandford St Martin's in good repair and St Margaret's within Bayfied Estate in ruins.

The power of the river Glaven had been harnessed in both villages by watermills, one still working and producing flour and the other now a private dwelling.

The old brewery in Letheringsett is at present being developed into luxury homes and Letheringsett Hall built by the Cozen-Hardy family is now a care home.

The wonderful shell museum in Glandford opened its doors for us and we then enjoyed coffee in the Art Cafe at Manor Farm Glandford..
